The Fulani people are recognized throughout Africa and many parts of the world for their rich and complex traditions, from intricate, colorful marriage to heavy, golden hoop earrings, facial tattoos, face piecing long curly hair and beautiful round beads.
They are different from the way they speak to the way they live. they are not different from everybody because they have unique lives to, they pray at least five times a day, fast at times, take the holy pilgrimage (hajj) at least once in their life time, they give alms and above all, they have rich culture and traditions which they spend time protecting and showcasing when necessary.
As Muslims, they observe all Islamic teachings,
As Christians, they uphold their morals… They believe in modesty, they possess a nomadic lifestyle of roaming the country side in search of pastures.. Feeding their herds with natures excess greenness.
Their oneness is identified in their different daily activities and the unity they exhibit when dividing their chores. Herding cattle’s is the men’s activity while milking the cattle’s becomes work for the women.
The Fulani diet always includes milk products such as yogurt, milk, and butter. Their main meals consist of a heavy porridge (nyiiri) made of flour from such grains as millet, sorghum, or corn. They eat it with soup (takai, haako) made from tomatoes, onions, spices, peppers, and other vegetables. (this got me salivating).
Their costumes are colorful and the exhibition of their traditions would only make you watch with great admirations. Their physical attributes are only a sight to behold as their kids are nothing short of adorable and their women rock the natural smooth and curly hair which gives them a unique, smart and hardworking look. Then comes the Sharo dance when they are due for marriage which tests their ability to handle difficulties and their strength to protect a family. The beautiful young maidens dance in a unique tone to a rhythm while shaking their waist and letting their beads do the magic.. They are trained from birth to be home makers and wait patiently on their husbands while finding handworks like making beads, bangles and taking their Milk products (NuNu) to the market.
The Fulani’s are intelligent people who have produced great people and have contributed positi
vely to the Nigeria’s growth not minding their minority. Taking the former president of the country # president Umaru Yar’adua as a typical example.
They are a group of people who haven’t stopped thriving to succeed in their various fields, and just like any other group of people they are doing their thing well and contributing their own quota.
